Welcome

By admin on Jul 12, 2008 | In Telecom Fees

Greetings all!

Timing is everything goes the adage. With this week's consumer revolt against the major telecoms proposing charges on receiving text messages and the ensuing call on the carpet by the Finance Minister, this is an interesting time to launch my blog.

An early story by the Globe and Mail incited 59 reader comments by day-end; not many of which were positive towards the anticipated changes.

The issue has been a topic of keen interest to my colleagues in the business and has been raised by acquaintances at the Y and my regular coffee shop. Having a blog to give my .02 handily gives me a forum for this and other issues. (For the record, I feel the proposed charges are highway robbery and grossly unfair. In essence, the consumer would be charged for unsolicited goods.)

Also this week saw the retreat of iPhone data pricing as Rogers relented to the mass objection to the data plan pricing (reduced by $30.00 per month) but still higher than almost anywhere in the world. Then to further infuriate their clients, Rogers launched the release of it iPhone to huge line ups at their stores in major Canadian Cities; clients were promised breakfast and to be one of the first to grab an iPhone 3G; seems like they misjudged demand and had only 70 8gb and 30 16gb devices in stores.... to add insult to injury, breakfast consisted of a granola bar. :-0

I will also review gadgets in this space--dear to my heart and legacy as the son of a man who had, for example, one of the first microwaves in Canada. It was more unwieldy in my mother's kitchen than her three teenage boys and just about as minimally useful there!

As the proprietor of a business that has operated on three continents and more than two dozen countries, I will now and then parse on foreign opportunities and markets. In addition, reader comments will shape the direction of content. I welcome guest bloggers to submit entries within the scope described. Please send any links you see as being useful to readers.
